深い心の傷を負った天才青年と、同じく失意の中にいた精神分析医がお互いにあらたな旅立ちを自覚して成長してゆく姿を描く感動のヒューマン・ドラマ。ボストンに住む青年ウィルは、幼い頃から天才ゆえに周囲から孤立していた。だが、彼の才能に気付いた数学教授のランボーは、ウィルに精神分析医のショーンを紹介する。ウィルはショーンにしだいに心を開いてゆくが、彼の才能に気付いた政府機関や大企業が接近してくる。
